Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)

Over the years Windtech Consultants has acquired significant experience in effectively harnessing the power of CFD to model and test innovative and cost-effective solutions that do not detract from the initial design intent.

Our CFD capabilities extend across a vast array of environmental studies that can be applied during initial concept right through to detailed design stages. Furthermore, with rigorous validation studies against wind tunnel test data we are now reaching levels of accuracy that would otherwise be impossible. This detailed and robust approach means that our CFD pedestrian comfort studies are suitable for use in many planning applications as well as for design validation in the early stages of a project.

Nonetheless, having conducted physical modelling in our state-of-the-art wind tunnel facility on more than 3,000 major building projects globally since 1991, we recognise both the strengths and the limitations of CFD, and when required are able to supplement CFD modelling with physical testing to enhance accuracy.

Given the significant demands of large transient CFD simulations, Windtech utilises the power of super computers to enable the highest levels of accuracy without compromising on lead times.
